Most finance apps send your transactions to someone else's servers. Pengo is deliberately the opposite: your history stays exactly where it belongs.

Offline

Works completely without internet. Data is computed and stored right on your device. Nothing gets sent anywhere, not even "to improve the service."

Private

No accounts, no analytics, no server. We have no way of seeing how much you spend, and that's the whole point. None of your financial data is with us; we only ever learn your name and email if you buy Plus, and only for the license and our bookkeeping.

Encrypted

The database is locked with AES-256. Only you know the password. Without it, the data is unreadable even to someone with access to your disk.

Before you ask

Where exactly is my data?

Exclusively on your device, in a single encrypted file. Pengo has no server to send anything to, so your transactions physically have no way of leaving your computer. You back it up yourself, wherever you want: to disk, your own cloud, a flash drive.

So Pengo never calls out to anything?

Almost. The one exception is exchange rates: if you hold an account in a foreign currency, the app fetches rates from the public frankfurter.dev API (European Central Bank data). The request contains just the currency code, nothing about you or your money. If everything is in one currency, nothing is fetched at all.

What if I forget my password?

We have to be honest here: we can't recover your password. Precisely because we don't know it either. AES-256 encryption can't be opened without the password. That's the whole point. Save it in a password manager and back up your data every now and then.

Which banks does Pengo support?

Any bank that can export a statement as CSV or OFX, which is practically all of them. Known formats import instantly (verified templates for Czech banks and Revolut, more being added); anything else gets a guided column-matching step the first time, then Pengo remembers it. Pengo never connects to your bank. It just reads the file you download. Step-by-step instructions for each bank are in the export guides.

Does it work on phone and tablet?

Pengo runs in the browser on desktop, tablet, and phone, and can be installed like a regular app (PWA) that works offline. The database is a single file, so you can move it between devices however you need.
